Quebec City August 4th

My last time in Quebec City was about 25 years ago with my friend Sally.
We stayed on the Ile d"oleans with a cousin of hers.
Her cousin gave us a short tour of Old Town Quebec.

This visit I saw a lot more of the town and a lot more people.
Since we where staying on the other side of the river we took the ferry from Port Levis to Quebec.
For $3 we rode the 15 minute ferry to the Port of Quebec.
We started our tour the city with finding an ATM machine for some Canadian money.

We stopped in the Basilique-Cathredarate Notre-Dame.
A somewhat noisy and formal organ playing filled the church.
The church was beautIful inside,
but I  was amazed to see flat TV screen behind each column.

Next we walked above the St Lawrence Seaway in front of the Chateau Frontenac.
A beautiful hotel built for the customers of the Canadian trans railway.

Around noon we toured La Citadelle.
It was built between1820 and 1850 to protect the French from Americans.
A peace treaty was signed and the Citadelle never saw battle.

I must confess that I spent the afternoon wandering the streets while the rest of the crowd toured the Museum of Civilization.
For the last 15 years Quebec City has celebrated the heritage of the people of Quebec with Les Fetes De La Nouvell France
Demonstrations, people in costumes, local food, music and drink filled the streets of the old Quebec.

People walking on stilts among the crowd at the festival.

Watch out for this group below in the alley

We are all tired tonight from walking all day and headed back early evening.
Tomorrow away from crowds and city.
Gaspse Bound!
